Melissa Moore

Sax, Flute, Piano

Melissa Moore is a dedicated and experienced music educator with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Humber College and 24 years of teaching experience. Specializing in woodwinds, piano, and Early Childhood Music, Melissa's teaching philosophy centers on connecting with students on a personal level to support both their musical growth and personal development.

Melissa offers a well-rounded approach to music education, integrating ear-training, literacy, harmony, melody, and creativity into her lessons. Melissa is also passionate about Early Childhood Music Education, having studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She is a strong advocate of the Dalcroze and Kodály philosophies, incorporating these methods into her teaching to enrich her students' learning experiences. With a deep commitment to seeing each student as an individual, Melissa tailors her lessons to meet students where they are in their musical journey and in life, aiming to help them develop musicianship skills, a deep connection to music, and self-awareness.

Beyond teaching, Melissa has an impressive background as a performer and arranger. She co-led a saxophone quartet, commissioning a unique piece from composer David Occhipinti, and received a FACTOR grant to arrange and record music for comedian Danielle Leger's album "Get 'Em." Her passion for arranging and composition extends to her students, as she often customizes pieces to fit their goals and skill levels.

With a rich background in jazz saxophone, having studied under renowned professionals like Mark Promane, Pat LaBarbera, Don Palmer, and Kirk MacDonald, and classical flute with former TSO flautist Virginia Markson, Melissa brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for music to all of her students.
